I had such a great time with these girlies! Mom wanted a fun picture to use on a birthday invitation-she's planning a barbie themed birthday party for this little diva. I think this photo will work just perfect!

A few weeks ago (when Mother Nature thought it would be fun to trick us) I met this family on a beautiful day for an indoor/outdoor photo shoot! It was so nice to FINALLY be outside! I've been looking forward to exploring the new outdoor locations around my studio.
They brought their sweet little dog, Mia along for her first photo shoot too.

I've had my share of little guys up to the studio this winter. This is Charlie, he was up to visit for his 18 month session. He started out very shy, which is typical for a little guy his age. I am usually able to get the best close up shots in the beginning of our shoot...The reason- they are often looking at me and thinking what on earth is she doing!? But with a little bribery and maybe a sucker or two we can usually find their true personalities... I think with Charlie we did just fine.

Contrary to the lack of new posts on this blog, I have been busy taking photos. I've leased a new studio which I am over the moon about! It's an airy, loft-like, space in Victoria and I've had some great sessions already! February and March are proving to be BIG months for my little birthdays sessions, I've had lots of cutsie, birthday boys and girls up at the studio. I have to be honest, these are my FAVORITE sessions to shoot. I 've also had some gorgeous newborns, to include my beautiful new niece. I will share all of these photos in upcoming posts, as today I am bringing you something Swwweeeet!

If you follow me on Facebook, you've probably seen my posts about Hair Candy. If you don't follow me on Facebook you should! My sweet friend Anne is a creative genius, and her latest endeavour are these awesome headbands and clips! I met up with her and a few girlfriends one Saturday afternoon to photograph these delicious pieces. Now of course I am partial to her work, but I have to be honest, her quality is A-mazing. I have numerous pieces that I've purchased from various sellers on etsy and not one of them compares to the quality of detail that Anne puts into each piece.

She has a million different fabrics/designs and even custom makes them to match outfits. She recently had a client send her material from her wedding dress to create a few clips. Another favorite of mine are the broaches/corsages that she's made for me. I love these for jazzing up my jean jackets and little cardigan sweaters. They are so easy for me to throw in my camera bag-what little girl doesn't want to wear a fun flower!

In addition to selling her creations on etsy.com, Anne has recently started throwing in-home parties. She will come to your house and set up shop. Everything is cash and carry and the hostess walks away with free products! A great excuse to get together with your girlfriends for a glass of wine =)

I've always had a special place in my heart for military families. Especially those that have gone through a deployment. I've mentioned before that my Dad served in the military while I was growing up. We were fortunate, he did not get called up for the Gulf War. I can't even fathom what it's really like for a child to miss a parent while they're deployed OR for a parent to miss a child's birthday.

I've offered free photo sessions in the past to families who are getting ready for deployment and to those who are just coming home from being deployed. I've always wanted to create an official program for JuMP Photos, as I think it is so important for these families to have photos documenting their lives for so many reasons.

Today's Oprah gave me the motivation! We know that when a loved one is deployed, the whole family goes to war. That is why the First Lady is calling on all Americans to help meet the needs and tap the potential of our military families. What can you do to help out? http://www.serve.org/ is a great website where you can learn more about this initiative and how you can volunteer to help ease the burden on these families. Another great site is Bluestarfam.org

Do you know a family that is preparing for deployment or a family that is getting ready to welcome a loved one home? I would love to offer them a family photo session at no cost to them. I am excited to announce another mini-session event! I just know this will be one of my favorites yet! These sessions will take place in-studio, in Chanhassen. They will start at 12:00 and go until 2:00 and I will have 6 slots available. The cost is $75 and I am requiring a non-refundable $25 deposit to hold your place. (In the event of a snow storm we will reschedule the event.)

I have ordered some seriously cute stuff for the sessions! I will have valentine socks, hair pieces, tu-tus, suckers, candy, tissue pom-poms and much more!

I am also offering an additional gift giving piece! The accordian mini books have been such a success for JuMP Photos! They are tiny little albums which can be filled with up to 9 images (sometimes more, sometimes less) of your session. My Mom and Grandma absolutely love them! They keep them in their purse and are always so excited to show them off. These are the perfect gift for those valentines in your life! You can even stand them up, so they'd be great on a desk at work.

I was really looking forward to my outdoor, winter wonderland session this past weekend. I wanted to start the week off right by posting "current" pictures. Obviously, the blizzard squashed those plans... and until it warms up past zero that session is on hold! The good news, we'll have plenty of snow for the shoot! So, this will be the first post in my "looking back" series. I begin with the first family of my Jordan Mini Sessions- which were held way back in October. This family was so much fun! They hadn't had a family photo in many years, Mom was so excited to bring them all together for a family session!

I have not been tending to the blog as well as I should! Over the next few months I will have many sessions to share with you as I wasn't able to blog most of them this fall. I have shipped out the last of my orders and my desk is finally clear! I will still be taking holiday card orders until Friday as well as gift prints & mini-accordion orders. I am so eager to share with you some of the fun products that folks have ordered as gifts for their friends and family. I have to wait until after Christmas, as I'd hate to spoil any surprises.

In the meantime I thought I would share with you two sessions that were recently shot in the studio space that I am using this winter. I am planning to do a Valentines Day mini shoot in late January using this space. Stay tuned for details on that! There are some really nice outdoor locations close by, I was able to step outside for a few shots.

This has been an amazing year for me... I am living my dream! It's been difficult at times to balance this baby of mine with my family, but every moment has been worth it. I am especially thankful for all of my wonderful clients who have allowed me into their lives to capture them in photos. I am thankful for all my friends and family who have spent countless hours listening to me chatter about this business. Finally, I am thankful that I no longer have to sit in traffic or drive in this winter mess! I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your loved ones!

A long, long time ago I was a diver on my high school swimming and diving team. One of these cute girls was a swimmer-a really good swimmer! It was such a surprise to get an email from her asking if I would be interested in capturing her family while she was in town for MEA. It was also a treat to see her parents, as we held the session at their beautiful home. It's always fun to reconnect with old friends...it's even more fun to meet their husbands and see how much their children look like them.

I had no idea when I began my journey as a photographer that I would meet and make so many wonderful new friends! There are so many talented photographers in the area and one of them just so happens to be this lovely lady! Being asked to photograph another photographer and her family is no small task and let me tell you I'd be lying if I said I didn't have major butterflies before the session. After a shaky start, (due to a creepy individual that wanted to observe) we switched locations. It was a good lesson for the both of us and much to our dismay we discovered a gem of location. I hope you guys had as much fun as I did!

A few months ago I held a facebook contest for a Halloween session! The lucky winners of my little contest were two of my favorite girls to photograph! Their sweet Mom is so, so talented! She throws lavish birthday parties each year for the girls and the last party just so happened to be a barn yard theme. She even went so far as to have a mural hand painted under their deck for the party!! How convenient was that for a Halloween photo shoot when the girls are dressed as a pig and a little chick!

I love it when I sit down to edit a session and I eventually have to cut myself off because there are just so many good photos! The combination of a cute family, great clothes, fun locations and the most perfect evening sunlight made this session just right!

I really like how Mom went about styling for their session. She knew she wanted a few traditional photos so she opted for all white for part of the session.

We then headed downtown for an urban shoot and look how easy it was to transform their outfits!
Two vests and one plaid shirt is all it took!

I also wanted to mention that I am working like a busy bee trying to get everyone their photos as fast as possible! I am currently editing the Jordan Minis- a few have already gotten their galleries. In general, I am running between 2 and 3 weeks on delivering the galleries. In addition to editing... my days and nights are spent fulfilling print orders and designing/ordering holiday cards! I didn't post my card designs this year as I have been customizing them per client. If your interested in holiday cards please let me know and I will include a few in your gallery!

Meet Kate. She is four. She is also a brand new big Sister! This is the third time I've photographed her and every time I do... it is sooo easy! She giggles and giggles and giggles!! Gap Kids has come out with a new line that is perfect for Urban Shoots! I have been getting a lot of requests for the urban locations so I wanted to share this find! They have made it so easy too!!! There are sooo many pieces and accessories to this line, making it super easy to only buy one or two pieces to pair with things you already have in the closet! Oh and the little girl line is full of ruffles! I am so in love ruffles!

Check out the the fun products that have come in this week! (Keep in mind, I take much better photos of people than I do things!)

The first is a new edge for the standout boards. In the past we've only been able to order black or white edges. We now have the option of doing a stainless steel edge or a light colored wood edge. Here is a photo of a standout board that I ordered to display in a local business. This is what the stainless looks like.

The second is what the wallet tin looks like! This tin includes 56 wallets and is included in the Modern Senior package.
Finally, here is another example of the accordian mini books. These have been such a success and I think they will be even more popular over the holidays. They come in sets of three and are the perfect brag book for Grandparents! My daughter recently discoverd they can also be hung on the fridge. The front and back of the books are magenetic.

I just loved this little family! They live on the most beautiful piece of property and I was lucky enough to be there when the evening sunlight was just perfect! She had us in the front yard for a large portion of the session. About half way through I asked if they had any tall grasses on their property. They quickly led me around to the back of their home.... I swear, the heaven's parted and the angels began to sing! It was a slice of heaven for me! Check out these images.....

The summer that is...it was just a few months ago that I was looking forward to spending my first summer home with the kids. I am still sane for the most part but I won't say it's been easy working from home and finding that balance. So off they went... Emily started 2nd grade yesterday and Evan started preschool today. They were both so excited to go and so willing to report how their days went. ( I know that will only last a few days.)

It's fun to look back at Ms. Emily to see how much she has changed. Particularly in the tooth department.

Her oldest son TJ is really into water sports! They live on a lake so he gets a lot of practice. He wanted some pictures with his wakeboard-- I was all over that! I'm thinking this would make a fun poster for his room.

Last spring I was asked to participate in the Teacher Appreciation gift bags for our faculty here in Jordan! Teachers are so giving of their time and energy and I think I speak for all parents when I say that we are grateful for everything they do. I thought it would be great to give them all an incentive to have their family photos taken this summer! I was so delighted to meet this family!

She ordered this collage as a 20x20 standout and i just have to share the email I received from her regarding it today!

"Well the photos are all up and all I can say is "WOW!" The metallic finish on the standout board is truly exquisite."

I have been so happy with these, I am glad to hear that my clients are liking them just as much! My vendor is now offering standout boards with a light wood edge or a stainless edge in addition to the traditional black and white edge.

I am doing my best to soak up these last few weeks of summer, but seriously, this humidity is too much for me! I've finally gotten my own kids summer photo session nailed down (which is no small feat for a Photographer) and it's been way too hot to get them out. I am hoping that we can make it happen tonight!

A couple of housekeeping items: My September Mini sessions are booked! However, I do have spots left for the October 16th Minis in Jordan. We should have some great fall colors at that time! If you have never been to Jordan in the fall- it's truly worth the drive down, the scenery is gorgeous! The October Minis are the only availability I have left in October. I am currently booking the first two Sundays in November. I will be taking the month of December off and then starting in January I will be shooting in-studio only! Details to come on that =)

Speaking of heat and humidity! This session was shot in July. It rained on my way to the session and we had just enough time to shoot the session before the next down poor arrived! It was tropical to say the very least!

Look what I just opened! I think I gasped when I unwrapped it. This is a very simple 20x20 Standout Board with a lustre metallic finish. It's simple, clean and so cute! If you don't have a lot of wall space in your home, this is a great way to get 9 photos from your session on the wall. Or, if you have more than enough wall space, it would be a great addition to your wall collections! It’s basically a 20×20 print, lustre coated (so it’s UV protected & doesn't need to be framed) and it’s mounted on a foam-like substance. This session was a treat for me! I have been busy with lots of little people- especially boys, so this was a switch! These girls are such nice ladies, so easy to talk to and so fun! I think I was able to really capture the bond between the two of them, it's easy to see how close they are! More cute boys. I love the challenge of photographing little guys! One thing that saves my life every time is the little toy that often accompanies them when they arrive for their session. This time it was Pinocchio! It's amazing how fast they get into it when you start by shooting their toys! I got all kinds of wonderful shots of Pinocchio, a few of him scaling the fence, some sitting in a chair, and this cute one!
Which led to me asking him to throw Pinocchio as far over my head as possible! Then I got this:

I can't even begin to tell you what a joy it was to photograph this little guy. Before he was even out of his car seat he was smiling and laughing. He never stopped smiling through the entire session! "B" just turned one and was just on the brink of taking his first steps. Mom even told me that she thought he might starting walking during the shoot! He is the first of 4 little boys I have scheduled to photograph for 1yr photos.

The art of newborn photography is a work in progress for me. I am still in the portfolio building process with newborns. I was introduced to a sweet lady in my neighborhood and she agreed to let me photograph her new baby girl. She was so patient with me, as baby girl had an agenda all her own. I've heard that tiny baby girls can often be the hardest... boy, did she give me a run for my money! These photos are from session ONE with little "E". Yes, I did two sessions with "E", as she was all modeled out yesterday. Her lovely momma let me come back again today to grab a few more poses. Is this weather not the best! I have been in full spring cleaning mode all week. Partly, becuase I am hosting a bridal shower for my sister on Sunday, but mostly becuase it's been so nice to have the windows open! I have also been busy gathering fun spring clothes for my daughter's birthday--which is right around the corner! I wanted to include a few pictures for those who are looking for great outfits for spring photos. I found all of these at TARGET!! I love when photographers post pictures of how they display photos in their own homes. There are endless ways to decorate with photos and I am always looking for more! I received these jewels yesterday and I am so happy with the way this turned out. A friend of mine has three of these IKEA 20x20 frames in her home and I knew I had to have them the first time I saw hers. I ordered my 20x20 prints mounted on thick board and sprayed with a finish. Customers often ask why you should mount photos? When a photo is mounted you can frame it without using the glass in the frame. I particularly like this because you never get a glare from your windows AND I think it gives a contemporary look similar to a canvas. You could also do this on a much smaller scale, 8x8 or 12x12. I wanted to go larger to fill the long space of the sectional couch.

I hope you had an awesome Valentine's Day!! We're still celebrating today, as it's a favorite around here. We had a sleep over last night with a special little lady, heart-shaped pancakes for breakfast and waaay too many Valentine candies. We took a break from eating candy to do a fun little photo shoot! Then we headed outside for some sledding and more photos. I am really liking the outdoor winter photos this year! The weather has been so mild! This January thaw is doing wonders for my photography hobby! I talked Ms. Emily into a mini-shoot today, provided I let her wear makeup!? That rockin' outfit has been calling for a photo session. If you recall the Gap video that I couldn't get enough of this Christmas... you should recognize the outfit.

Tonight while I was making dinner I was drinking a bottle of "Smart Water". Emily asked me why the water was called Smart Water. I responded with, "that's just the brand." Five minutes later, she walked back into the kitchen and asked me who the 5th president of the United States was. I responded with, "not sure, go google it." She looked at me with a very straight face and said, "Mom, I just wanted to see if that water works, and obviously it doesn't." I love it when my kids make me laugh until I cry!

We were able to get outside for a good portion of the session due to this fabulous January weather we've been having. It was so easy to capture the spirit of their relationship... I had the chance to shadow the fabulous Joyce Golden of Grace Park Designs during a newborn shoot this week. This little guy happened to be her brand new nephew! Newborn photography has always intimidated me. It's truly an art that requires a lot of patience & creativity! Joyce did all of the posing for the shots and was kind enough to explain every detail of what she was doing. It's always a treat to watch other photographers in action! I am still scheduling shoots during the winter months. We have the option to do them in my home or yours! Many people are leery about having photos taken in their homes... But really, it's so easy and comfortable for children to be in their own space. The only requirement is mid-day light and some great windows! I can usually spot a great place for photos the moment I walk in your door. I may ask to move furniture around or even a lamp! We also can pop outside for a quick shot or two. I love to take advantage of the fun winter coats/hats/scarves/mittens! I also think it's fun to have pictures with your house in the background, it's very personal and a great treasure for your kids someday. Snowball fights are good too. Just think of the possibilities!

This family just so happens to be good friends of the last family I posted. I am so appreciative of the referrals I've gotten! All of my clients have been so great at passing the word on. This has been an amazing season for me, I am truly grateful for all of the wonderful people I have met and photographed. Isn't she gorgeous? Such a great big sister, she was so sweet.

I am taking a little break this weekend and heading to Nashville to visit some friends who recently lost their 27yr old niece to the horrible H1N1 virus. You may recognize these cutie boys! This is the third time I have had the pleasure of photographing them. I sent their Mom on a mission to find a red barn in their neck of the woods. I knew their session was scheduled for November and I thought a red barn would add some color to the typical dull, grey weather we tend to have in November. Low and behold, the weather turned out to be gorgeous that day! AND... she found a gem of a location! It had everything, barns, buildings, paths, tall grasses, woods etc. I will definitely be back, as I have been dreaming about the place ever since.

Look at this fun gallery wrap! This was actually a photo taken at their last year's session. It's always been a favorite of mine and it looks awesome as a Gallery Wrap! I've had quite a bit of interest in these, so I thought I'd post a couple pictures. The wrap shown is a 16x20, it's hard to gauge the size from the photos, but I always recommend going larger. Typically, prints are matted and framed, which makes them look a lot larger on the wall. These come ready to hang with no framing necessary!

I could not let today go by without a post thanking the Men and Women who have, or are currently serving our country. The military has always been a part of my life... My Dad flew helicopters in the Vietnam War and then went on to serve in the Army Reserve while I was growing up. I was always very proud of him, but never realized just how successful he was until I met my Husband, Dave. Dave served in the Navy for five years and we actually met a few days before he left on his tour. When he came home to visit me on his first leave, he met my Dad. My Dad happened to be in uniform as he had drill that weekend. Dave Saluted him and quietly whispered to me, "you failed to tell me your dad was a Warrant Officer." I guess I never really knew what that meant! My Dad has since retired and I know he misses flying everyday. I am grateful for our Military and grateful for the families that our enduring life as single parents while their spouses serve over seas... Thank you!

how excited I am to share these photos with you! Do you remember this post? After a very scary week in the PICU, I am happy to report that Little "C" is back to his old self. I had the pleasure of photographing their awesome family this past Sunday.

He was your typical "almost" 2 year old, I couldn't get him to stop for even a second. In C's case this is something to be over-joyed about!

Look at this face! His Mom told me that all of the PICU Nurses just fell in love with him. How could you not? Maybe she can send them this photo to remember him by.

He also has 3 big brothers! This is the oldest of the bunch.
And last but not least... The entire family all together again! This picture really captures the true essence of this family! Four happy, healthy boys and a Mom and Dad that still got it for each other!!
